Me? Ander? Our little Midlands getaway.

After what was, the most insanely beautiful wedding between my friends Kris and Rudi in The Valley of 1000 Hills, Paul and I decided to make a meal out of the long weekend that followed and hit up the Midlands.

We started off, nursing hangovers and retelling stories from the night before (where I apparently danced around with not only Paul’s tie around my head but also a stolen flower girl’s ivy crown) at Treat Cafe.

Yummy breakie, stunning view and friendly staff. It’s definitely worth the mish up the hill. We then stopped off at the Mandela Capture site for a little pre-Youth day patriotic celebration and a brush up on our SA history. Sort of.

What followed was a day of cheese tasting, goat petting and stall visiting.

We came away with enough home made breads, cheese wheels, procured meats and preserves to arrive at our cosy little cottage called Rainbow Retreat and make a feast for two.

That night we kicked it old school with a crackling fire, rounds of pool and a rather shoddy game of Monopoly.

We awoke to a crisp and cool morning, where Paul made us some legit Milo before we headed to Howick Falls for a little spot of antique shopping - after which my charming boyfriend proceeded to surprise me with a couples massage at Granny Mouse Spa.

I came home feeling well fed and extremely relaxed - not to mention spoiled. I also managed to ferret an Ohm keyring, prayer flags, Ganeshi journal and incense. We were blessed with beautiful South African winter weather and I highly recommend revisiting this familiar route A$AP, Rocky! You probably all went with your parents when you were kidlets, but grab your holmies and make a foodie adventure out of it this time!
